*Tiffany lamps contained the best electrical elements--sockets, cords and plugs--that were available at their time of manufacture. Rarely do I see or hear of a lamp shorting out except from the occasional exposed cord that has lost its insulation from misuse or poor storage.
Every lamp that I sell has been plugged in, lighted with appropriate wattage bulbs, (Desk lamps: max. 40w, Single socket floor lamps: 60w, Multi-socket lamps: 25-40w per socket), switched on and off numerous times, and left lighted for at least four hours. This is the extent of my safety and functionality test. I am not an electrician.
Remember, all Tiffany lamps are 80-100+ years old, and things wear out eventually. It is good insurance to have a qualified electrician check your lamp and for you to follow common sense procedures, like using low wattage bulbs which do not produce as much resistance (heat) in the wiring and using GFIC outlets or adapters to break the circuit if there is a short.

I always like the unusual items that Tiffany produced. This as an early variant of a #418 lantern, made for a smaller shade than the standard 418 base. This base is stamped with an early 5 digit number, along with the Tiffany Studios mark and the TG&DCo. logo. The pulled feather shade, sometimes referred to as the Michelin Man shade, is signed L.C.T.
The lamp dates to pre-April 28, 1908, as that is the date monogrammed on the base where the cord exits. A 3 letter monogram is on the front of the base. It is very ornate but blends in except when lit at the right angle. The lamp is 9" tall and 6" wide.
The shade has multi-gold colored feathers with magenta highlights shading to a metallic silver/white rim. All with shimmering iridescence. The base has rich brown/green patina and is in EX condition. There are 2 small no show fitter chips and the base has been rewired. SOLD

Tiffany Studios Favrile glass. This is actually the glass for the lid of a Tiffany Furnaces hexagonal shaped box. The Tiffany Furnaces numbers are either 104 or 116 with possibly other numbers as well. The blank is in gold with peacock motif and nice silver/purple iridescence. The tile and the flashing are undamaged. Use it to repair a broken lid on the Tiffany box by trimming the flashings off of the virgin tile or display it as a decorative piece of Tiffany glass. 6 1/4 x 7" irregular shape, hexagon is 5 1/4x5 3/4". Tiffany Studios 3-light lily base, #319 SOLD

7" butterscotch colored Tiffany Studios Favrile shade on a Tiffany Studios # 426 Three-Leaf design base. 13" tall. SOLD

The #415 adjustable arm base is one of the largest and heaviest counter-balance desk bases. It stands 16" tall. This base has a brown/red/green acid-etched patina and is properly marked on the bottom. The 8" diameter King Tut pattern shade is properly signed L.C.T. Favrile with magenta/silver iridescence when unlit and a bright orange/yellow color which really shows off the pattern, when lit.  Fully adjustable arm and socket head. There is no damage to the shade or base. The cord and plug have been replaced. SOLD

Tiffany Studios 20" tall bud vase. The Favrile glass tube has six green leaves radiating upward into the gold iridescent of the upper half of the cylinder. It is signed L.C.T. and is in perfect condition. The 6x6" bronze mount is in rich brown/green original patina, also in excellent condition. It is marked on one foot and numbered 713. Incidentally, in the appendix to my desk set book I endeavored to fill in as many blanks as possible in the original Tiffany numbering system. I added about 150 that were not in previous references, but some were still missing. Number 713 is now accounted for and has been added in the free Additions & Corrections to the Book section on my website.

Tiffany Studios green iridescent 10" shade with standard 2 1/4" fitter. Fits all counterbalance and harp floor bases.  These pictures show some reflections that are NOT in the all-over uniformly colored green shade--The green is consistent in color. The top quarter is shiny/reflective and the bottom 3/4 section has that silky Tiffany sheen.. The shade is signed L.C.T. It has no chips, or cracks. There are three tiny 1/4 to 1/2" scratches. A Tiffany Studios green Damascene shade with no chips, dings or cracks. It is 7" in diameter and 4 3/8" tall. The surface is almost smooth, no noticeable ribbing, although it does have a mild 'starburst' or 'daisy' pattern, like the gold shade above. You can see it in both lit and unlit pictures here. It is properly signed L.C.T. The base is a #419 harp base with super rich brown/green patina. 14" tall. Properly marked. The socket has been replaced with an early one. It has a new cord and plug. SOLD.

Original finial heat cap for all Tiffany Favrile 7", 8" and 10"diameter shades with 2 1/4" fitters. This cap sits on the top of the shade and the lip wraps around the fitter so it won't fall off. The bottom of the shade typically is supported by 3 or 4 arms. They are hard to find as many were misplaced or lost when the original lamp was packed away. Minor wear to original gold finish as shown. SOLD

Tiffany Studios 3-light lily lamp, Nicknamed the Piano Lily, with 3 nicely signed Tiffany lily shades. The shades have nice blue/purple/gold iridescence and are a close match, [considering the process to make and iridize them]. Super patina on the signed base with original sockets and switch. A VERY RARE Tiffany "Flower holder and electric lamp", model #723. This is the larger of only two models produced by Tiffany Studios evidently for a very short while. This model is pictured in Duncan's Lamps and Metalware book from an early, circa 1902 Tiffany Studios photo. He could find no actual lamp to photograph, nor were there any in the hundreds of auction catalogs that were used to compile his very extensive book. Both silver and gold dore' are combined in the cast metal base and 8 cast flower pots. The finish is original, unpolished, with minor wear from handling.  Both socket and switch are original. The outside cord and plug have been replaced with a nice rayon silky cord. The clear glass flower holding tubes may or may not be original. Either way they are the proper size and construct as those pictured in the book. The pierced Pine Needle shade has the most desirable RED glass liner, also original and undamaged. The heat cap is also original to the lamp. The lamp stands 16" tall with a 5" diameter base. The base and shade are both properly marked.  SOLD

Tiffany Pinecone desk lamp to go with the Pine Needle desk set. Base with 10" diameter Tiffany Damascene shade. Shade is signed L.C.T., with no chips, cracks or scratches and wonderful iridescence. The shade was originally from a Tiffany oil lamp and has some discoloration on the white casing inside the shade. This does not transmit through the shade and is only visible if you take the shade off. When gas lamps became passé, many Tiffany lamps were converted to electric or the shades were placed on newer ''modern'' electric bases. Base is impressed with Tiffany Studios mark and numbered #445. The lamp is 17" tall. Condition is excellent on both the shade and the base. SOLD

In original dull gold finish with age. This cap was made specifically to match the Adam desk lamp and Adam desk set pieces. Tiffany Counterbalance desk lamp with 8" Tiffany Feather design shade in blue/green/silver. The base color is green with blue and silver in the iridescent feathers. The base is properly stamped TIFFANY STUDIOS NEW YORK #415. It is the largest counterbalance base with attached ball and is the base with the largest ball--referred to as the ''eggplant'' base by many Tiffany people. Very heavy. The Tiffany shade has ZERO chips, ZERO cracks. Shade is signed L.C.T. and its 8" diameter is well proportioned for this larger base. More information: This Tiffany shade was originally made for a Tiffany oil lamp. As electric lamps replaced oil, many early shades, like this one, were placed on Tiffany electric lamp bases. The fine details: The inside of the shade is cased in white and the white shows some discoloration, probably from the heat from its oil lamp days. There is one tiny undulation on the rim. Not a chip, flake or any kind of damage. It was part of the making of the shade and is perfectly smooth.

Tiffany Studios 7" shade with engraved insect (shown in bottom picture). great iridescence and in perfect condition. No chips, cracks or damage. Fully signed L.C.Tiffany Favrile on the 'perfect condition' fitter--NO chips. Another plus: Tiffany engraved insects to cover natural air bubbles in an otherwise exceptional shade. Sometimes the bubble was so deep that the coloring was lost as the bubble burst. On those shades the bubble will show up as a white spot when the shade is lit. Although not a major distraction, it is much better to have a shallow bubble, where the color is not lost. That is the case here--a shallow bubble expertly crafted into the shape of an insect and yet still retaining the shade color when lit. SOLD

Tiffany Counterbalance floor lamp with 10" Tiffany Damascene shade. Rarely do I describe any 100 year old lamp as being in mint condition. This lamp is the closest to mint that I've seen in a long time. Even the cord and plug are original. No chips or damage to the shade. No replaced parts on the base. No noticeable wear to the rich brown/green/some red patina. Shade and base are both properly signed and stamped. The original cord has lost its silk covering, but is in good shape otherwise. Tiffany Counterbalance desk lamp with 7" Tiffany Damascene shade. The base is properly stamped TIFFANY STUDIOS NEW YORK #415. It is the largest counterbalance base with attached ball and is the base with the largest ball. Very heavy. The Tiffany shade has many tiny fitter chips at its very edge which are visible in the pictures. None are even close to being visible when the shade is installed. This early shade has a flared bottom and is unsigned. The lamp is all original except the cord and plug. SOLD
