*Tiffany lamps contained the best electrical elements--sockets, cords and plugs--that were available at their time of manufacture. Rarely do I see or hear of a lamp shorting out except from the occasional exposed cord that has lost its insulation from misuse or poor storage.
Every lamp that I sell has been plugged in, lighted with appropriate wattage bulbs, (Desk lamps: 40w, Single socket floor lamps: 60w, Multi-socket lamps: 25-40w per socket), switched on and off numerous times, and left lighted for at least four hours. This is the extent of my safety and functionality test. I am not an electrician.
Remember, all Tiffany lamps are 80-100+ years old, and things wear out eventually. It is good insurance to have a qualified electrician check your lamp and for you to follow common sense procedures, like using low wattage bulbs which do not produce as much resistance (heat) in the wiring and using GFIC outlets or adapters to break the circuit if there is a short.

Tiffany Studios 16" diameter Acorn shade on electrified Tiffany Studios Greek Urn [acorn-shaped] base. 23" tall. The base has been electrified through the burner. There is a switch on the cord and a switch in one of the burner knobs. The glass colors are accurately shown lit and unlit in these pictures. Nice mottled glass.  The shade is signed and dash numbered. The base is marked on the removable oil font. I count 3 heat cracks which blend in with the tiles some of which have irregular surface characteristics. All are innocuous. The heat cap is not original. SOLD.

 
Tiffany Studios 16" leaded Pansy shade on an entry level Tiffany Colonial Stick base. Like all Tiffany lamps, no two Pansy shades are alike. What makes one lamp special compared to another?
 THE GLASS: This pansy has A+ glass in the flowers and foliage. A good mix of colors and proper cuts to the glass give the petals on this shade a pleasing and natural look--with a little Tiffany/Nouveau touch, of course. The background glass consists of  "A" quality striated/mottled glass. A nice mix. Better than so many Pansies that look like tiles made from glass of discarded desk pieces.  THE ARTISTRY Unlike many Tiffany patterned shades, the design of the Pansy changed over the years. This shade is the more elaborate one, while still being true to its purpose of beautifully displaying the pansy flowers in glass. THE CONDITION: There are a few sporadic hairlines, none of which detract from the overall presentation and the shade has no repairs, restoration or other condition issues. It is properly signed. THE BASE: This is a special shade on a plain base with so-so patina. This keeps the price of the complete lamp in a more affordable range. The other option is enjoy the lamp while saving money for the next acquisition or upgrade the base at a later time. SOLD



Tiffany Counter-Balance Desk Lamp. Ribbed 8" diameter, deep profile Damascene shade on 2-arm #417 counter-balance base. The larger 8" shade (most are sold with 7" shades) is a plus--bigger is better. Shade signed 5 L.C.T. Favrile, split ball base is signed and numbered 417. No chips, or cracks on the shade. The patina is excellent with only minor signs of use. Tiffany Counterbalance desk lamp with 8" Tiffany Feather design shade in blue/green/silver. The base color is green with blue and silver in the iridescent feathers. The base is properly stamped TIFFANY STUDIOS NEW YORK #415. It is the largest counterbalance base with attached ball and is the base with the largest ball--referred to as the ''eggplant'' base by many Tiffany people. Very heavy. The Tiffany shade has ZERO chips, ZERO cracks. Shade is signed L.C.T. and its 8" diameter is well proportioned for this larger base. More information: This Tiffany shade was originally made for a Tiffany oil lamp. As electric lamps replaced oil, many early shades, like this one, were placed on Tiffany electric lamp bases. The fine details: The inside of the shade is cased in white and the white shows some discoloration, probably from the heat from its oil lamp days. There is one tiny undulation on the rim. Not a chip, flake or any kind of damage. It was part of the making of the shade and is perfectly smooth.

Tiffany Studios 7" shade with engraved insect (shown in bottom picture). great iridescence and in perfect condition. No chips, cracks or damage. Fully signed L.C.Tiffany Favrile on the 'perfect condition' fitter--NO chips. Another plus: Tiffany engraved insects to cover natural air bubbles in an otherwise exceptional shade. Sometimes the bubble was so deep that the coloring was lost as the bubble burst. On those shades the bubble will show up as a white spot when the shade is lit. Although not a major distraction, it is much better to have a shallow bubble, where the color is not lost. That is the case here--a shallow bubble expertly crafted into the shape of an insect and yet still retaining the shade color when lit. SOLD

Tiffany Studios 16" diameter Pansy shade on a Tiffany Studios decorated Library base. The lamp, circa 1910. The shade with multi-colored pansy flowers and blossoms against a mottled and striated green/white upper section shading to a darker green/white at the bottom. The base, in original smooth brown/red/green patina stands 21" tall and has its 3 original sockets and switches; all in working order. The shade is signed and numbered and carries a revered ''dash number'' --the mark of an exceptional shade. The base is properly signed and numbered. Tiffany Studios Blue Vase. Nicely decorated.6 1/2" in diameter. Opening diameter is 4 1/2". 3 1/2" tall. Fully signed. The bottom half of the picture on the left shows reflection from the white background material. The color on the vase is consistent throughout. I have seen this piece with a metal wire mesh "flower frog" covering the top. SOLD

4" Tiffany finial heat cap-A REAL, GENUINE, AUTHENTIC ONE with original green/brown patina. This is a slip cap--it has the lip to sit inside the shade. This cap will fit most 16" and 18" shades that sit on bases with arms. The cap is not threaded, like the repro caps, since there is no reason to have threads on a cap that just sits on top of the shade. sold                           



5" Tiffany finial heat cap-A REAL, GENUINE, AUTHENTIC ONE with original green/brown patina. This cap will fit most 20" and 22" shades. It is deep enough to fit over the lip on the larger shades and fully cover the lip. It has its original threaded screw attached. . sold
